He was a geologist who loved the sea. He participated on long ocean sailing journeys on several jachts. As a mountainclimber he scailed the peaks of Altai and visited some little known parts of Africa. He worked in Mongolia and Zambia before he was able to buy himself a boat, the yacht “Maria”. In the seventies, he took his Maria on a journey around the world.It took 11 years and 70,000 nautical miles. 50 people from 12 different nationalities rotated throug those 11 years in the Maria’s crew. In 1984 Lubomir Maczka, with his college and friend Vojtek Jacobsen crossed from Atlantic into the Pacific on the Northern route on his ship “Vagabond”. It was the first East to West passage. Lubomir Maczka has many friends around the world. It can be said that he is the citizen of the world. Surrounded by friends, Lubomir Maczka died in stetin in 2006. In spite of his death, his legend lives forever.
